What a Doula Cannot Do

While doulas provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, there are some things we cannot do:

  • Medical Procedures: We do not perform medical exams, diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, or provide clinical interventions.

  • Make Decisions for You: We support your choices but cannot make medical or legal decisions on your behalf.

  • Replace Healthcare Providers: We work alongside your midwife, OB/GYN, or other healthcare professionals — we do not replace them.

  • Replace Your Partner: We support both you and your partner but do not take their role in your birth experience.

  • Guarantee Outcomes: Every birth is unique. We cannot guarantee a specific birth experience or outcome.

  • Transport or Emergency Care: We are not emergency medical responders and cannot provide transport or emergency treatment.

Our role: We focus on empowering, advocating for, and guiding you through your pregnancy and birth journey with knowledge, comfort measures, and emotional support.
